I just handed James Mac all the masters I possess from the Rites of Eleusis, Austin, 1995 - 2002. And also, the handwritten initiation records from our first 3 years of doing initiations, starting in March 2005. Obviously all that information was digitized some years ago, but the originals carry their own weight/interest as archival objects, and so they have gone home.

I was asked to return all that stuff to int'l when I resigned but I seriously have a big box and they have all the important paperwork anyway. .. have no idea what to do with all of it so have it in a big box in my storage locker. Along with a suitcase full of robes/costumes, etc.

Point is, it would cost way too much to mail, I already gave way too much, not going to spend a couple hundred more.

lol, that would be a bit funny. .. I don't even know if Canada Post allows that. Also, I honestly don't think they would want any of the paperwork I have. They have copies of all the important stuff, to do with members. It is probably me just being sentimental. I think you were right when you suggested a shredder or to burn them. Unfortunately I don't have the ability to do either of them right now. . I really should get a shredder soon though cause as it is I now manually cut up my bills before throwing them out!

The robes, yikes. That's a hard one, especially as I made most of them by hand so it's hard to throw out good work. Also I used to think I might need them one day but even for personal ritual I don't bother with that (so far.) I commend you for being able to get rid of personal certificates/paperwork. Not sure I can manage that either.

clarification

I didn't get rid of my personal certificates, ritual archive (by which I mean rituals written by me or copies of rituals written by others in which I participated, such as weddings, seasonal rituals - I do not mean USGL rituals, those are all destroyed) or regalia. They're mine, and I have reasons to value them.

It's a similar issue, but it ain't quite the same issue. USGL's property belongs to USGL, SWL's property belongs to SWL, my property belongs to me. There is some gray area. The handwritten initiation records aren't really gray - they belong to the Lodge but I wasn't aware I still possessed them, and once I found them, I arranged to hand them over. The masters of the Rites - in the end, I agree that SWL should have them, so SWL now does. Frankly, I thought I had given them over to the current Lodge Master several years ago, and have only very recently unearthed them.

Wish there was someone here I could have handed them over to. I bet 90% of it could be put in the garbage, ritual scripts that we wrote ourselves and things like that, but I wasn't able to do that. I did manage to give away all the furniture and props to the Rhode Island people, at least. It's hard to manage leftover stuff like this.

I think that's what a paper shredder and a burn barrel are for, frankly, because neither USGL or International has a brick and mortar headquarters that accommodates storing old ritual robes, non-essential paperwork, etc. It's too bad, because it ends up in officer's homes, rather than centralized. In any case, that stuff is none of my business at this point. I simply need to make sure that everything for which I have ever been responsible ends up in its proper place. I am the first to admit it's been a slow process, but in the end, it will be accomplished. They don't call me the Bishop of Saturn for no reason whatsoever ;) Also, in the case of the USGL stuff I've been slow to return, other than allowing the Order to have closure with me, it's pretty non-essential. No one else will be using my old charters. Anything that was useful I gave up long long ago, except for these few things that have turned up since. And when they turn up, I turn 'em over. Simple.

I am usually very efficient like that as well. This material is my one weak spot. Hm, and Victoria Elle's things, too. I already have a massive folder of her artwork and she's only been producing it for a summer. .

Ah, I'd still love to see some of those video masters (I probably shot 3 or 4 of 'em). I think I only possess a "2nd camera" unedited reel of the dress rehearsal for the Rite of Mars done as a World Wrestling Federation match.

Maybe we ought to try to put out a call for all stray masters - I'll talk to JM about it, see if anything will be done with them, or if they've simply changed storage rooms. It's a pretty serious bear of a project. There are 48 taped Rites (one Rite of Mercury eluded taping) plus 2 bonus rites, Neptune and Pluto. One year was edited, the 2nd, by Kat and Tony. I'm totally willing to participate in reconstructing the history, obviously it was a serious personal investment for all of us.

Yeah, I was trying to tell Justin about the amazing vampire musical Rite of Saturn recently. That may be my all time favorite. No video for that one though.

We (Eleusyve Productions) are doing an archive/history project regarding the performance of the rites in the Order. We've interveiwed several west coast folks so far. If you know who we might contact to get the lowdown on the Rites as done in Texas that would be marvelous.

Thanks!

*rubs eyes*

You might get in touch with Content Knowles. I hear she had something to do with it and she'd probably talk to ya. Or you could get in contact with SWL and ask them who you should get in contact with if you'd prefer to talk to someone who is still active in the OTO. A great many people were involved, many of whom are still active and would I am sure be willing to talk to you.

(We did a seven year cycle here - every year, we produced all seven rites, performing one every five days. It occurred in the autumn. I produced the whole deal (by which I mean, I took responsibility for the project management, which started when I was Lodgemaster and continued after I passed the torch), lots of people directed over the years (I did one each year so I got to direct each of them, although I did not go in ToL sequence) and dozens of people wrote them and acted in them. I say wrote because directors had the option of producing Crowley's script, recontextualizing Crowley's script, or they could write their own. I've declined some outsider interviews about the process but I'm willing to talk to you extensively for archival/historical purposes. But there are a lot of people you can talk to about it. The current Master of SWL, James Mac, acted in many of them. Current Master of Bubastis, same deal. He was there. Many many people in Texas were there. I'm sure you can get some good interviews.)

You rock. I am so glad you transformed that community experience into an ongoing theater career too.

I'm now Past Master of Bubastis :) I am back to serving in the much more comfortable capacity of Initiation Secretary. In any case, I'd be happy to answer any questions, at least so far as I remember "those iron days."

Declaration of Support for the Grand Master Sabazius

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

We, the undersigned Sovereign Grand Inspectors General of United States Grand Lodge, Ordo Templi Orientis, hereby declare our unequivocal support for the Grand Master Sabazius, and for his recent actions in response to the behavior of some members of our Order. While we value honest dissent, no organization should be expected to retain within its ranks those who, despite their sacred pledges to the contrary, do not recognize, respect, or intend to cooperate with the organization's leadership; fail to address their grievances in a civil and fraternal manner through the appropriate official channels; or refuse to abide by the decisions of its duly constituted governing and administrative bodies.

We are confident that the issues surrounding the recent sad events will be resolved shortly, and hope that no further measures will be required at this time to ensure the health and well-being of the Order. We are united in our resolve to carry out both the spirit and the letter of our Sacred Oaths, and to defend our Grand Master and our Holy Order.

Love is the law, love under will.

Re: hypcrite. eternal hypocrite. you.

Oh, anonymous, aka Citizen 24.16.205.103, it's so good to hear from you again! There are some excellent examples of my hypocricy of which I am aware, but what you've posted isn't one of them. I know exactly why I signed that document and given the same set of circumstances, I'd do it again.

Your little steaming turd that you've dropped here is however an excellent example of someone too cowardly or disinterested to sign their own name, judging something they don't have enough information to judge and spewing about same.

And if my actions, which I guarantee you don't have enough information to understand, are sufficiently troubling to you, I suggest you find a talk therapist or some other source of compassionate professional help. You aren't going to find that here. Silly Season ended some years ago.
